Tijstoppen
Wanneer het varen tegen de inkomende of uitgaande getijdenstroom vergeefs bleek, lieten schepen het anker vallen en wachtten ze tot de stroming draaide. In het Nederlands heet deze pauze tijstoppen, een rustmoment dat wordt bepaald door het ritme van de rivier.
De tentoonstelling tijstoppen omarmt deze vloeibare en poëtische logica, ze presenteert oud en nieuw werk dat reflecteert op een verweven band met de Schelde. De kunstwerken vormen een tijdelijke kaart van onze culturele en ecologische connecties met de rivier.

When sailing against the incoming or outgoing tide proved futile, ships would drop anchor and await the current’s shift. In Dutch, this pause is called tijstoppen, a resting time governed by the rhythm of the river.
By embracing this fluid and poetic logic, the exhibition presents old and new works that reflect on a closer relationship with the Schelde. Alongside each other they form a temporary map of our cultural and ecological connections with the river.
